Melissa Network has developed an innovative, community-based integration pathway, that shifts the focus from services to meaningful engagement, and from victimization to agency and participation. Designed upon the insights of migrant and refugee women leaders, this holistic model is built around seven strands of intervention:

These strands are woven together to address the practical, emotional, social and civic dimensions of integration. As women gain language skills, access information, heal, express themselves creatively building trust, confidence and a sense of belonging, they strengthen their capacity to care for themselves, support one another and participate actively in the community. Together, these pathways enable women to rebuild their lives with dignity, resilience and purpose, to be multipliers and active agents of change.

Communities in Crisis & Transition
Melissa is rooted in migrant and refugee communities and driven by women’s initiatives.
Their ongoing involvement and representation have enabled Melissa to respond quickly and effectively to evolving crises and new waves of displacement. By fostering community-building, women's leadership and self-advocacy, participants take ownership of their narratives, become leaders within their communities, and shape durable, scalable solutions for migration, gender equality and peaceful coexistence.
From the international Afghan Women Parliamentarians and Leaders Network to the Ukrainian Diaspora in Greece, community-led responses have emerged in times of crisis and developed into powerful platforms for solidarity, advocacy and action with regional and international outreach. In this way, Melissa transforms grassroots connections into solid platforms for peace-building, integration and gender equality.
Building Bridges
Standing on the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and Africa, Greece has always been on the route to safety for women fleeing war, violence, and oppression.
Melissa acts as a bridge, linking female-led migrant communities with the host society, as well as public authorities, civil society organizations (CSOs), international stakeholders, and advocacy platforms, in order to amplify their voices. It aims at sharing knowledge and establishing common practices that prevent gender-based violence and enable the continuity of care throughout migration trajectories.
Co-Creating Knowledge
Melissa Network engages in research and documentation to capture emerging challenges and trends, along with innovative community-based solutions, in order to advocate for policy changes that advance peaceful coexistence and inclusive societies.
Through partnerships with researchers, universities, and community organisations, we bridge practice and theory, ensuring that women’s voices shape the narratives and the policies that affect their lives.
This co-creation of knowledge strengthens both confidence and community: it transforms testimony into insight, and experience into action.
